The release of Fall 2008 bags are only a few weeks away but I still can’t get over with the Marc Jacobs + Richard Prince collaboration for Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2008 collection. In my own honest opinion, SS08 was the best show Louis Vuitton ever put up. I loved everything about it! From the music, the nurses, the bags, the clothes; it’s deserves to be in my #1 list of best runway shows ever. And from that collection comes this really special bag, a reinvention of the House’s classic piece: the Papillon Frame.
The bag’s name sounds really simple but actually, the Papillon Frame is a very sophisticated bag. The iconic Papillon bag which was Twiggy’s personal favorite was clumsily painted, the handles we’re upgraded and added a frame for additional support. In other words, the Papillon was pimped up, Xzibit style!
The Papillon Frame is made from brown Monogram Watercolor canvas, the paint smudge effect makes it look really quirky yet very classy; just like a work of art. Its vintage clasp and hand-painted karung snakeskin handles give the Papillon, an icon of the House, an exotic retro look. The bag’s frame is an external structure made from acetate which serves as support and gives the bag a certain kind of feel. A patch pocket can be found inside the bag lined with high quality microfiber lining. But the most interesting thing you’ll see inside the Papillon Frame is Richard Prince’s signature making the bag a precious collector’s piece.
The Papillon Frame measures 12.2″ x 6.3″ x 6.1″ and is available at Louis Vuitton boutiques for £1,990 or approx. $3,882.
