It has been announced few months ago that Sofia Coppola would be collaborating with Louis Vuitton to create a collection of bags and accessories. And yesterday, December 5, the collection made its debut at Château Restaurant Joël Robuchon in Tokyo, Japan. Sofia’s line entails slouchy duffle bags, discreet clutches and retro wedge sandals.
Here’s the backstory: Sofia Coppola has a bag in mind and couldn’t find it. She was imagining a chic and a classic handbag without tons of hardware and not to show-offy. “I didn’t want it too slouchy or too structured and definitely not black — people wear so much black that it’s nice to have a bag that’s a different color.” Sofia Coppola decided, with the help of Louis Vuitton, to create her dream bag. So after several trials and prototyples, the SC Bag (as Sofia has already been made by Marc Jacobs) was born, which combines the utility of a travel duffle with the smaller scale of an everyday bag. The SC Bag, comes in four versions; one in Dark Gray Suede, two in Calf Leather in dark blue and burgundy, and one in the iconic Monogram Canvas.
Sofia Coppola also designed small evening clutch made from metallised calf leather and suede. Also, a line of sandals that combines the “glamour of the 40’s with the sleek sensibility of the ’70s”.
The Sofia Coppola collection will hit the stores on March 2009.
