The Stephen Sprouse Book is a fascinating monograph on the influential New York artist who collaborated with Marc Jacobs on the iconic 2001 graffiti collection. Inventive, enigmatic, and supremely creative, Stephen Sprouse (September 12, 1953 – March 4, 2004) made art and clothing that captured the mood of the ’80s and ’90s. He is one of the first American designers to mix graffiti and a punk aesthetic with fashion, Sprouse challenged conventional notions of style. His unique sensibility still influences fashion, music, advertising, and popular culture today.
This book was written by Roger Padilha and Mauricio Padilha who have worked closely with Stephen Sprouse’s family and friends to create this exceptional monograph, which includes never-before-published images; sketches, photographs and other materials from the Sprouse Archives; and interviews with his friends from the art, fashion, and music worlds. The book also features interviews with Marc Jacobs, Debbie Harry, Teri Toye, Steven Meisel, Polly Mellen, Tama Janowitz, Chris Stein, Anna Sui, Kate Moss, Iggy Pop, Baby Jane Holzer, Tammy Toye, Elizabeth Salzmann, Andre Balaz, Annie Flanders, Kim Hastreiter, Karen Bjornson and many others.
