Louis Vuitton Men’s Spring/Summer 2011 Pre-Collection

Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2011 Menswear Pre-Collection can be thought of as a well edited wardrobe made for travel concentrating on essentials from the packable overcoat to the ultimate parka, easy rugby top and perfect cashmere sweater. Pieces from the collection are lightweight, crease free, designed to layer and detailed. Although the season’s military influence is evident, the overall feeling is quite preppy. These are throw-it-on pieces for a silhouette, which combines both dressy and casual elements.

The shoulder is straight, the two-button jackets with a slightly raised waist and trim are complemented by flat front trousers. Fabrics are refined: 150’s lightweight wool and cotton/silks and linens, both lined and half-lined. Details are subtle: jackets have hard-striched outside collars and front pockets, and four actual buttonhole sleeves with a final Louis Vuitton engraved button.

Iconic casual pieces like the LV varsity jacket, multi-pocketed hunting jacket and clean and simple parka are styled with one-accent color detailing for a tone-on-tone effect enhanced by contrast trim like nylon and leather on cotton. Military-inspired details: web strap collars and pockets, packable hoods and parachute styling, Damier check pieces combining form and function.

Multi-layering sets for this collection, and it’s always precise. A linen two-button blazer over a rolled-cuff ecru jean, pullover, and tieless shirt for example, or a thin, shirt-styled leather ¾ over a cropped Damier check blouson, simple T-shirt and rolled-cuff pant.

The rich color palette includes a sea of blues worn in tone-on-tone combinations, Khaki with clay, sulphur yellow and chocolate accents for a neutral melange, stand-out reds and a dark group from indigo to steel and anthracite.

In addition to the subtlety of the shades, variations around the iconic Monogram pattern enriches the collection with a range of fresh prints such as the Monogram Star in solids and patchwork prints for shrits and t-shirts, Monogram Cravate and Monogram flowers for sport shirts.

Looove that black jacket (wind breaker maybe?) row 6, last column. Any idea on pricing for that jacket?
